Dr Kieran McCarthy

Jack of all trades

Professional Background

A late bloomer, Dr Kieran graduated in medicine from the University of Qld in 2006 at the ripe old age of 36, and completed his General Practice Fellowship in 2012. Kieran was sponsored through medicine by the Australian Army, and recently completed 6 years working as a military doctor. He worked in the General, Close and Special Operations health spaces, deployed overseas on five occasions including twice to Afghanistan with Special Operations, as well as the Victorian Bushfires in 2009. Whilst the Regimental Medical Officer at 2nd Commando Regiment, he was responsible for the medical management and rehabilitation of our wounded soldiers, playing a part in improving the rehabilitation process and overall management systems. This experience has given him a keen desire to work with veterans; and the aim of providing a seamless transition for our contemporary and older veterans as they transition into the civilian world. Kieran has extensive experience and interests with sports, occupational and lifestyle medicine, and enjoys guiding people towards positive health outcomes.

Kieran is building a ‘boutique’ medical arm to the GO2 concept, based mainly around veteran’s health; high-end sports & musculoskeletal rehabilitation; executive, lifestyle & occupational medicine and mental health. We are not interested in production line medicine…

Kieran’s ‘other’ job is the Medical Director for Panoptic Solutions; he is responsible for medical oversight, governance, direct medical support & planning for a mix of high net worth executive clients, charity events and adventure & sporting activities. This feeds his love of remote and wilderness medicine.

Kieran and Rod Martin have known each other for almost 30 years; it is this relationship and a belief in the positive outcomes we generate through our integrated model that results in him commuting down from the Sunshine Coast.

Kieran is a qualified CASA Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME) and Dive Doctor. To help maintain his sports doctor skills and knowledge, he also does regular orthopaedic surgical assisting sessions with an old army buddy (Knee and Hip surgeon).

Kieran also loves a chat, and is not very ‘politically correct’. He will happily talk about mountains and forests all day long.
