Evelyn Gavel

General & Organisational Psychologist

Professional Background

Eve is an experienced therapist who works primarily with older teenagers and adults, presenting as individuals, a couple or as a family. Her special areas of interest include trauma, anxiety and depression, sleep problems, addiction, relationship counselling, and personal growth.

She is skilled in the use of a broad range of evidence-based therapies (such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Schema Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Trauma Informed Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR Level 1)). Eve’s experience in applying these therapeutic techniques, coupled with her personable approach, has enabled her to work effectively with people of all ages and from all walks of life.

Over her career, Eve has worked in emergency services, the mining industry and the university sector. She worked with Queensland Police and the Australian Centre for Post-Traumatic Mental Health (Phoenix Australia) developing and implementing policy, delivering training, and providing psychological services to a workforce repeatedly exposed to potentially traumatic events.

Eve knows counselling and psychotherapy is challenging and can, at times, be hard. She will support you throughout the process, and ensure the treatment plan is responsive to your unique circumstances and what you want to achieve. With your consent, and where necessary or appropriate, Eve is happy to consult with other health professionals involved in your care, such as your General Practitioner. Sensitive to issues of culture, race, gender and sexual orientation, Eve will work with you to ensure you have the right tools and develop new skills to better manage or resolve your problems so you can get ‘back on track’ and continue to thrive.

Eve’s current training focuses on EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and Polyvagal Theory in Therapy.
