Vanessa Saltmarsh

Practice Nurse

Professional Background

Vanessa calls Brisbane home after moving around Australia with the Army and then supporting her military partner throughout the country with their two boys. It was after a significant life event that she decided to study nursing after discharging from the military.

Vanessa started nursing in 2006 as an enrolled nurse working in the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital burns unit and the multidisciplinary pain clinic. This is where she learned the real powers of human resilience, fragility, and the body’s ability to adapt. Working in an intense environment was a great foundation for her to learn that health, recovery and rehabilitation needs to be an individualised approach.

She completed her registration in 2010 doing the transition to intensive care at the Prince Charles Hospital and then general ICU in Townsville. She has worked in the community with adolescents, cancer care, emergency medicine and with paediatrics. Vanessas’ empathy and kindness still grows as she enjoys supporting people and assisting those who need her support and clinical expertise. Vanessa has also worked for Defence in Canberra and Brisbane, as a civilian nurse, and understands the assessments and vaccination protocols along with medical classification and vaccination schedules. She has continued working in the community with clients making the transition home with tube feeding and its associated complexities.

Vanessa was drawn to work at GO2 Health because her skills and life experiences can support current and former service members, emergency services personnel, and their families to have a supportive health network. She understands the importance of having a good medical hub to manage wellness, injury, and illness for everyone.

Vanessa loves a chat and likes to understand people’s stories to assist in a holistic model of healthcare. This is one of the reasons she enjoys being a nurse so much as everyone is different, and no two days are the same. There is light and shade and she is always learning and growing as a person.
