Dr Matthew Worthington is a registered Clinical Psychologist specialising in the treatment of PTSD and Complex PTSD in adults aged 18 years and over. He brings a trauma-informed, holistic approach to therapy, grounded in safety, collaboration, and evidence-based practice.
Dr Matt completed his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at James Cook University in 2014 and holds a Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. He has undertaken extensive specialist training in trauma treatment, including distance-based training with the Boston Trauma Centre during the period when Dr Bessel Van der Kolk was Medical Director. Dr Van der Kolk is the author of “The Body Keeps the Score” a primary text on PTSD.
Drawing primarily on eye-movement and memory reconsolidation approaches, Dr Matt works with therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T.), for which he is also an accredited instructor. He is additionally trained as a Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) Practitioner and integrates mind-body approaches into his clinical work.
Dr Matt has completed the Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy through Mind Medicine Australia, as well as advanced training as a Wim Hof Method Instructor and HeartMath Resilience Practitioner, supporting emotional regulation and nervous system resilience.
Originally from Liverpool in the UK, Dr Matt has a strong interest in working with individuals affected by trauma, including first responders, military personnel, and those with complex trauma presentations (PTSD). He sees clients under GP Mental Health Plans, as well as DVA and WorkCover.
Outside of his clinical work, one of Dr Matt’s most memorable achievement was hitchhiking across the USA without any money.
Dr Matt provides appointments on Tuesdays from 12:30pm – 8:00pm, and on weekends (including Saturdays and Sundays).
