The national conversation on veteran wellbeing continues on FIVEAA Mornings with Graeme Goodings
The national conversation on veteran wellbeing is growing, and it recently continued on FIVEAA Mornings with Graeme Goodings, where our co-founder Rod Martin joined the program to discuss the new $78M Veteran and Family Wellbeing Agency and the realities veterans face when transitioning out of service.
Across the conversation, Rod highlighted:
- that wellbeing support must include healthcare, because without it, veterans can’t fully access the services designed to help them
- that medically discharged veterans often face the toughest journeys, carrying both physical and psychological injuries
- how the first 18 months after service can be the most challenging, marked by loss of purpose, identity shifts and sudden cultural change
- why many veterans feel misunderstood by the civilian world, particularly when their skills don’t translate easily to new careers
- and why noticing, listening and supporting those who have served is a responsibility we all share
why this conversation matters
This interview aligns with Rod’s other recent media discussions on the same issue, reflecting just how urgent and complex the transition challenge remains. As he noted, while the new Agency is an important step, the period between now and July 2026 is critical, because veterans are navigating these challenges right now.
We’re grateful to FIVEAA for helping bring these conversations into the public spotlight. The more the community understands the realities of transition, the better positioned we are to support those who have served.
